camera obscura
I downloaded the new Camera Obscura album from my sister Ashley today, excellent album, first album that was not a disappointment this year, although I think I am warming up to the latest Decemberists.

lost season 5 finale
not much of a game-changer compared to some prior season finales. I had heard rumors we would be seeing Jacob pop up in the past of the major Lost characters and we got that. It seemed a little contrived to insert him so late in the game, though. Seeing Locke roll out of that box was not a huge surprise. I suspected that the Locke we saw on the island was something else -- he was too determined. Was he the smoke monster? If not, does the smoke monster really do the bidding of Jacob? Or the dark-haired man at the Black Rock beginning? Or is it the same as the dark-haired man?
My theory had expected the box to contain see something like another nuke to reactivate the Swan or Orchid and create another time shift to sync the 1977 and 2007 timelines. So that appears to be wrong. I did expect the nuke to get set off. It is unclear whether that changed history or not, or just enabled the oceanic 6 to get back to 2007 and reinforce the "whatever happened, happened" theory. It does seem almost certain that they will be coming back to 2007 since Jacob's last words were something like "they are coming..".
I expected the guitar case to have played a role in the finale, but it appears to be deferred another season, I also expected to see the return of Walt, since I have heard rumors of Walt playing a pivotal role in the series finale -- there is supposedly a secret scene they shot in season 2 to save for season 6 because they knew the actor would age too much in 5 years..

so long faraday

a great character. Good story-arc, I could not see him continuing beyond this season as I think the time-travel aspect will
be done with by the end of the finale and the characters will all end up in the same time-period. The question is.. will Jack, Kate, etc actually travel in time again, or will they hide in the temple for 30 years...? I am dubious we will see a season of them in heavy make-up, so I think they will get displaced again.

Dead is Dead
great episode, I was suprised that the island spared Ben, I was sure he was a goner. However it was a bit annoying to see the Widmore exile reduced to a single vignette in the episode. It felt a bit rushed. And it was a surprise to see Ceasar bite it so soon but no surprise to see Illana show her colors as an agent of ... Widmore ? Dharma? hmm.

BSG: the end
well it's all over. It was quite bleak this season, it probably dragged on for a bit too long after they found the remnants of earth, but the battle to rescue Hera was spectacular, and Baltar finally stepped up to the plate and redeemed himself. My theory was that everyone is a cylon and they are playing into an eternal cycle of death and rebirth. There is an cycle and the show left it in the air as to whether it would continue that way. Are they all cylons? I would say yes. Who is to say when the cycle really started? With the 12 colonies? Before then? Where did Kara return to? hmm..

someone to watch over me
caught up to last Friday's BSG episode. It was slow going at first but really wound up as a doozy of an episode. Starbuck is visiting by the ghost of her father... Ellen Tigh is realizing she is not quite the god she thought she was. Boomer is evil and Chief finally realizes it. Starbuck and Baltar are going to have all the answers at the end. Everyone is a Cylon. I'm sticking with that theory.

BSG almost over..
BSG is almost over, and I think they have been dragging out the ending for too long. I was into the bleakness and despair of the characters as they realized they were all fucked, but how many episodes do I have to see of people drinking themselves into oblivion? The revelations have been as I expected -- the "final 5" are from Earth and they come from cylons who pretty much forgot they were cylons to begin with. I still believe that everyone is a frakkin' cylon though. Starbuck realizes this -- only she and a #2 are privy to the secret that she has been resurrected. I am disappointed with Baltar's treatment, it is almost as if they forgot about him the past half season and now they are dusting him off for a part in the finale. He is definitely special and seems to be aware of something that Ellen is not.

This Place is Death
So Charlotte is dead, I was expecting that, so it was not a suprise but still sad. So know we know that Danielle(and the other losties) probably stop skipping through time in the 1960s dharma initiative period since he encounters young Charlotte, and also Candle when the Orchid station was being built. We also know that the smoke monster/Cerebus is guarding the "Temple"..and it seems to also have the power of mind-control, something never exhibited before. And my theory that Ben should never has turned the wheel..correct. Locke should have.

more on jughead

repeating my tweeted theory -- the whispers heard prominently in season 1 will turn out to be the Lost-In-Time Losties(Locke, Faraday, etc) observing their past selves. A theory I have heard is that 1950's Ellie is the same as Louise Hawking, the old lady in the church in LA, who is also Faraday's mom. I buy that and would bet money on it.

more Lost ruminations..
so Widmore == the "this is my island" soldier, and they were in the 1950's as I thought. And lo-and-behold, a nuke! Jughead.
Looking at where the nuke is situated, it does not appear close to where the Orchid station is though. What happens to it? Did it get moved ? Did it detonate? Was it buried...where the swan station ends up being? Perhaps its detonation becomes unstuck in time -- perhaps Widmore moved the island at the precise moment it detonated to save the island ? What if the failsafe key in the Swan releases the stasis field and allows the nuke to detonate at some point in time, destroying the island? Wild thoughts...

Lost Season 5 ~ ep 3
So the island did go to the past as I thought. Just not the way I thought with the jumping around. Very clever.
Theories:
-Those psycho military guys are in the 1950's, are British, and Widmore is one of them.
-Dr. Candle had his arm amputed by the Brits when the Dharma Foundation activated the wheel, forcing them into the past and encountering the Brits.
-Faraday knows everything that will happen, it is all in his notebook.
Predictions :
-the island will go to the far past at the end of Season 5.
-Jack is Jacob

bike racing
I have been slacking off the past few weeks due to allergies, the holidays, and the weather. I definitely am not as in shape as I wanted to be, but am improved from last fall. I still have to drop 8 more pounds at least to get to what I was 2 years ago, and ideally I would like to get down another 15 lbs to 200. Doing 14 hours a week of base miles is a bit nuts in this weather, I have to scale back to shorter roller rides in the mornings and evenings or risk getting bronchitis. My vicious cycles motivator race frame has not been put in the queue yet, so best case I would get the rig at the end of April. So..Spring Series goals -- race at least 2 races to get some exposure, and keep on putting in long weekend rides to build up my endurance, aiming towards the fall series and the 24 hour races to be more competitive.

Lost Season 5
premieres tonight! Predictions -- the island goes to the *past*. Not the future. Long term... the dark matter on the island is a result of an experimental American bomb detonated underground on the island in the 1950' ...maybe.

BSG
so season 4.5 started today with "Sometimes a Great Nation", overall a very bleak episode, as I figure the remaining 9 will be. It seems to reveal that everyone on earth was a cylon and they were wiped out, which somewhat gells with my theory of cylon scouts leaving earth and deciding to forget they are machines, although it seems like it was perhaps cylon scientists who were selected for some experimental project of resurection. The question becomes did the cyclons wipe themselves out, or did humans intervene? I think humans have been gone for a long time, the cylon children are doomed to a neverending loop of self-destruction and rebirth.

Låt den rätte komma in
finally saw this movie Monday night -- really creepy little vampire movie based on a Swedish novel. Well acted, subtle special effects for the most part, with the exception of the goofy cat attack -- was I supposed to laugh? And interesting story -- was Eli's "dad" really her dad, or was he an old boyfriend, basically what Oskar will become in 60 years? Of course there is already an english language version that will lose all of the atmosphere and replace it with more gore and fancy quick-edits and quickly be forgotten.
